Gardners have been providing CDF (Consumer Direct Fulfilment) for over 15 years, annually shipping millions of parcels around the world on behalf of thousands of retailers. During this time we have continually evolved the service we offer to ensure that it meets the changing and varied needs of today’s retail trade.

How can we get started

Well first off you need to make sure that you have an account open with Gardners (Click here to download an account application form). Once this is done we can then work with you to establish your bespoke requirements further, i.e: data, reporting, shopping basket requirements, shipping arrangements etc. We can then confirm a proposal to you and start the process of setting up the electronic ordering as detailed below.

How do we set up electronic ordering?

We can provide you with our FTP ordering or web services specification which will help your IT team to create a test order, in turn allowing us to fully test the link. Once this has happened we can enable the account to begin processing live orders.

Who takes the money?

We have the ability to provide you with a shopping basket should your existing site not have one. You would manage the transactional account that sits behind the shopping basket and would therefore look after the transaction. If you operate your own shopping basket we will integrate directly with you and your provider.

How quickly will you process the order?

Any orders placed before 3pm Monday to Friday for in-stock titles will be picked packed and despatched that working day.

Who keeps the customer informed?

Gardners provide you with full visibility on every order to enable you to keep your customer informed.

What about eBook fulfilment?

eBook orders are automatically available for direct download from a link sent to the consumers email address once the order is placed.

Are there bespoke packaging options?

We use plain packaging for CDF orders and we can create an accompanying bespoke delivery note featuring your logo and messages, using our template. Additional chargeable services also on offer include gift wrapping and the option for you to put a barcoded insert supplied by you, into all of your orders.

When do you invoice me?

At the end of every day two invoices are raised, one for the products and the other for service/carriage costs incurred. All invoices are due 30 days from month end statement.

Consumer Support Desk

We can provide a complete customer support service on your behalf if required which is available in-house 9am-6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive. Gardners in-house customer service staff are available to the consumer throughout the order process via phone and/or email.


We can handle returns to a dedicated PO Box number on your behalf should you wish to take advantage of it.

Stockholding on your behalf

Gardners unique distribution service is designed to receive stock of products bought directly by you from any supplier. We will hold your lines separately from Gardners stock within our systems and warehouse, and merge when needed to provide a single delivery direct to the consumer.

Data licence conversations

  • We can offer weekly bibliographic data licence and feed to populate your website – books / DVDs / CDs as well as jacket image feeds for books / DVDs / CDs
  • Daily price & availability feed giving RRP, discount and stock levels
  • Hourly inventory feed to allow you to see changes to stock levels on an hourly basis
  • Other associated files including slipped ISBNs / market restrictions etc
